Since its inception in 2019, the Waterwise Program has made a significant impact, saving Western Australians 24 billion litres of water. This includes more than one billion litres in residential areas and almost 23 billion litres in non-residential sectors. Additionally, the program has contributed to the planting of more than 10,000 trees and nearly 300,000 waterwise plants, helping to improve biodiversity and urban cooling.

The third iteration of the plan introduces eight new initiatives and 35 ongoing actions, with a focus on supporting urban greening, expanding tree canopies, and managing the challenges posed by climate change, population growth, and urbanisation, while continuing the commitment to walk together with Aboriginal people.

For the first time, the Waterwise Program will explore opportunities to extend its impact beyond Boorloo (Perth) and Bindjareb (Peel), investigating ways to expand into regional urban centres across the state.

The Waterwise Program, delivered by 11 State Government agencies in collaboration with local governments, businesses, and community organisations, has been recognised nationally, winning the Organisational Excellence Award at the Australian Water Awards.
