The Western Australian Government’s updated Defence and Defence Industry Strategy outlines the vision to position WA to become a ‘destination of choice’ for defence work in the next 15 years. 

The strategy intends to fulfil this vision through the delivery of initiatives across 6 key pillars, ensuring the state’s defence industry provides significant benefits for Western Australian industries and communities. 

The strategy highlights the development of new industries, including the integration of the state in major supply chains for Australia’s nuclear-powered submarine fleet.

The strategy outlines intentions to increase its support for the Australian Defence Force meet its national security and defence objectives. The contribution of local knowledge, skills, land and infrastructure is intended to support the diversification of the state’s economy and create tangible benefits for local communities.

The strategy also includes the delivery of initiatives that harness the diverse skills and experiences veterans offer. As WA’s defence industry expands, veterans are expected to play a vital role in the state’s broader economy.
