The Western Australia Industry Participation Strategy (WAIPS) 2024 has been launched, expanding scope to further engage local industry.

The 2024 strategy aims to capitalise on WA's innovation, health and medical and digital technologies industries, and bring focus to industries relative to environment and climate change.

The initial 2020 strategy was an outcome of the Western Australian Jobs Act 2017 (WA Jobs Act). Since its adoption, WAIPS has delivered incredible results for local businesses and workers across WA. As identified in the June 2024 review, these results have included supporting of 87,182 jobs with nearly 22,500 of those in regional areas of WA.

Key outcomes identified in the review included greater assistance to develop local business capability, increased focus from government on purchasing from local sources and enhanced reporting and oversight of the employment and business aspects of procurement.

WAIPS 2024 has been designed to support local business in WA's evolving economy and changing environment with a more flexible approach. The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation will collaborate with State Government agencies and targeted stakeholder groups to further develop the strategy's key focus areas.
