Following the Premier’s recent announcement of Public Sector Reform, the functions of the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety structure are being moved on 1 July 2025:
- The Resource and Environmental Regulation Group will become the Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration.
- The Energy Policy Group will move to the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification.
- Our groups and functions including Building, Energy Safety, Service Delivery, Consumer Protection, IRCP Legal Services, WorkSafe and Labour Relations will join with the Local Government and Racing, Gaming and Liquor functions to become the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (DLGIRS).
From 1 July 2025, Ms Lanie Chopping will take up the position of Director General of the new DLGIRS on a five-year contract.
Ms Chopping’s appointment leverages her extensive experience in regulatory governance and industry oversight. Prior to her current role as the Director General of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Ms Chopping was the Commissioner for Consumer Protection.
The Public Sector Commissioner has commenced recruitment for the Director General of the new Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration.
