"Propel has been an incredible tool in helping me support and uplift my team so we can achieve our goals."
Tracey Garbin has completed all 3 units in Propel and says one of the most rewarding outcomes is seeing her team grow because of what she learned.
"I brought in performance management every 6 months and added in 2-up conversations where the staff under my team leaders get to have a half hour chat with me. It means the whole team feels heard," she says.
After spending 3 years in the mining sector, Tracey returned to the Department of Education where she began her career 30 years earlier.
In the newly created Housing and Transport Operations Coordinator role, she leads a team of 17 responsible for locating teachers to remote and regional area across the state.
She was keen to learn the skills needed to progress her leadership when she applied for Propel.
"I learned the importance of making sure that all those in my team are all on the same path. Regardless of their position or level each person needs to know ‘the whys’ - to understand the reasons behind what we're doing," she says.
"Our purpose at the department is to provide the best possible education to students. When my team gets a house for a teacher in a small country town or even a remote community and gets their possessions to the house so the teacher is in the classroom on the first day of school – then we have helped the students."
Due to an overwhelming response, applications for term 1 and 2 Propel units have now closed. Find out more and get your application ready for term 3.
