The latest Streamline WA progress report, delivered in collaboration between 11 state government departments, outlines the progress made by the Council of Regulators to advance the Government’s approvals reform priorities.

The report covers the period from April 2023 to November 2024 outlining key highlights.

During this report period, the Independent review of environmental approvals (2023), led by Dr Paul Vogel and David McFerran, made 39 recommendations to Government that were progressed or completed.

Changes that deliver on the recommendations include new laws under the Environmental Protection Amendment Act 2024, that allow decision-making authorities to process and issue their own approvals in parallel while Environmental Protection Authority assessments are underway. This is designed to improve timeframes and provide more certainty for industry.

Additionally, the Coordinator General function was established within the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation to coordinate approvals reform efforts across the Council of Regulators and support cross agency collaboration.

The function aims to ensure better oversight and accountability and a strong link to key projects also requiring access to industrial land.

The report can read in the key highlights.
