The Pay-roll Tax Assessment Amendment (Thresholds) Act 2020 received Royal Assent on 6 April 2020.

The Act increases the payroll tax exemption threshold from $850,000 to $950,000 on 1 January 2020, and then to $1 million on 1 July 2020.

This provides payroll tax relief for small and medium sized businesses in Western Australia and will brings the WA payroll tax regime more in line with those in other jurisdictions.
