Applications are now open for the $1,000 Premier’s Relief Payment to provide emergency financial assistance to Kimberley residents whose homes were damaged during the floods caused by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie.
The recent record flooding in the Kimberley caused inundation and damage to the primary place of residence and home contents of hundreds of people living in the West Kimberley.
The State Government is providing a one-off relief payment of $1000 to each eligible residents over 18 years of age, if they live in a property damaged by the flooding.
The relief payment is to assist the resident with expenses such as purchasing food, securing emergency transport, or replacing personal items damaged by the flood.
Applications for the relief payment can be submitted in four ways:
- Online through the SmartyGrants website;
- Phone via the Department of Communities Disaster Response Hotline on 1800 032 965;
- In person at one of the Flood Hubs in Fitzroy Crossing, Broome, or Derby;
- In person via community outreach program.
Applications will be assessed by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and certified by local community representatives - applicants will be notified of an outcome within 10 working days of submitting the application.
The relief payment will be in the form of a debit card which will be activated 48 hours after collection.
The Premier's Relief Payment will be managed by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services with the support of the Department of Communities, the Shire of Derby West Kimberley and local community representatives.
