Applications for the Road Safety Commission's Community Initiative Grants, targeting the 17-29 age group, are now open.

Up to $160,000 in funding is available for:

  • community-based events (up to $5,000)
  • community-based projects (up to $25,000).

'This round of grants reflects our strong commitment to working with the community to promote positive driver behaviour among young people,' said Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner.

'I look forward to new ideas about ways we can better support the community in delivering important road safety messages to this vulnerable cohort who are overrepresented in our road trauma statistics. We know that local ideas, insights, connections and passion can have the power to change attitudes and save lives,' he said.

Save Our Country Kids Week began from a seed grant to the Narembeen CRC in 2017. Today a positive road safety culture is an integral part of growing up and living in the town. The initiative has also inspired more than twenty other towns in the Wheatbelt and South West to follow suit, and it continues to grow.

The Minister for Road Safety David Michael supported the Road Safety Commission’s decision to proactively encourage sports clubs and secondary schools to apply.

'We all know that schools and sports clubs are the lifeblood of the community and are ideal places to help deliver road safety messages,' he said. 'I encourage all sporting clubs to think about what they can do to keep their members safe.'

For more information on how to apply visit the RSC Community Grants portal. Applications close at 3pm Friday 4 October 2024.
