WA Commissioner for Equal Opportunity Dr John Byrne said it was a good opportunity to provide community education and outreach about anti-discrimination legislation to the Aboriginal community.

"A substantial number of race discrimination and racial harassment complaints come from the Aboriginal community in WA, so it is beneficial to raise awareness about the Equal Opportunity Act and the Commission's role," he said.

He said although it was the first time the Commission had held a stall in Murray Street Mall for NAIDOC Week, it had participated in many Mirrabooka NAIDOC Week events over the years.

"The Mirrabooka NAIDOC Week event brings the community together and it has a wonderful family atmosphere the Commission likes to be a part of during NAIDOC Week," he said.
