On the night of Tuesday 1st October 2024, there was a fire at the Norfolk Chapel in Karrakatta Cemetery, which has caused significant damage to the adjacent condolence lounge.
Further investigation is required to determine the extent of damage. The Norfolk Chapel will not be available for bookings at this time.
Karrakatta has two additional chapels, and a garden chapel available for services.
All other areas of the cemetery are safe for visitors and services.
The crematorium remains operational. Planned services at the other chapels and other booked services will continue.
All funeral directors who have booked services in the Norfolk Chapel and are impacted by this have been contacted directly and working with our staff to ensure funeral services continue.
The matter is subject to police investigation.
