The program is a joint partnership between the Department of Communities, the Department of Education and the Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA), with funding from the Commonwealth Government.

Grants of up to $100,000 were available to councils to deliver programs that address the early development needs of young children in their community.

The successful recipients will work in partnership with families, Early Years Networks, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, schools, ECEC providers, playgroups, and other locally based government and non-government organisations to deliver placed-based initiatives improving the wellbeing and school readiness of children aged up to 5 years.

The first five years of a child’s life are considered critical for positive life outcomes.

The grant program follows the announcement in May 2024, that the State Government and Minderoo Foundation announced their continued investment in the Early Years Partnership with an injection of $34.6 million to progress 24 projects identified in the Community Plans.
