On 17 January 2023 at approximately 5:15pm, a witness on Hope Road, Jandakot observed the driver of a CT Concrete Taxi dumping concrete from the back of his vehicle and cleaning the boom arm with water.

At 10:20pm on the next night, the same witness saw the same vehicle parked on another part of the site. The driver was witnessed again dumping concrete and washing the boom arm onto the surrounding ground.

The incidents were reported, and the driver of the vehicle was contacted by officers from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER). He admitted that he was the driver involved and said he owned the concrete truck.

In the Fremantle Magistrates Court on Friday 18 October 2024, the owner-operator was fined $8,000.

DWER Executive Director of Assurance, Ruth Dowd, said the penalty was appropriate.

“The penalty imposed was significant and demonstrates that it’s not acceptable to dump even small amounts of waste,” she said.

“Our message is simple: businesses should have a plan in place to properly dispose of all waste at an authorised facility. Dumping waste on public or private land is unlawful and irresponsible and they risk the likelihood of being prosecuted.”

Anyone who witnesses illegal dumping is asked to call DWER’s Environment WAtch Hotline on 1300 784 782, email environmentwatch@dwer.wa.gov.au or call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
