Collie Senior High School upgrade 2020: classroom block

Collie’s educational environment received a major boost with the official opening of the Collie Senior High School upgrade on 4 February.

The $7.5 million upgrade improved educational facilities and opportunities at the regional school and provides increased capacity for an extra 130 students. The school currently has more than 500 Years 7 to 12 students.

The upgrade was designed by Bunbury’s MCG Architects and built by Pindan from their Busselton office. The project met its buy local requirements and most subcontractors on the project were local businesses.

The upgrade was project managed by the Department of Finance for the Department of Education. It was delivered on time and on budget. The upgrade includes eight additional classrooms – five general learning rooms, two for inclusive learning and one for information and communications technology -- a commercial kitchen and café for hospitality students, and a refurbished arts area.

The project was delivered in four separable portions, starting with the rebuild of a workshop into a first class science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) laboratory, delivered for the start of the 2019 school year.

The food science component was followed by the main component, the classroom block, which was occupied in term 4 of 2019, and the final component, the refurbished arts area. An additional component of car parking and civil works was delivered separately by a Collie builder in time for the start of the 2020 school year.

Public art has been included in metal design components integrated into the school fence.
