A former building supervisor has faced disciplinary action for a poorly managed house renovation in Trigg that resulted in significant safety and durability concerns.
The Building Services Board fined Mark Adrian Busio (BP102308) $2,500 for failing to properly manage and supervise a building service as required by WA’s builder registration laws.
Mr Busio is the former nominated supervisor of Insideout Building Pty Ltd (BC12744, expired), which entered external administration in January 2024.
According to information presented to the Board, Insideout Building was contracted in 2018 for major renovation work including demolition of part of the single-storey house and construction of a second storey.
An investigation by Building and Energy identified significant risks to safety and durability related to poor building practices and a lack of proper management and supervision.
The disciplinary action against Mr Busio addresses the management and supervision issues. The homeowners have commenced separate court proceedings in relation to other aspects of the project.
Building Commissioner Saj Abdoolakhan said the matter clearly showed the consequences of inadequately managed and supervised building work.
“A nominated supervisor’s responsibilities must be carried out actively and diligently to ensure building compliance and safety,” Mr Abdoolakhan said.
“Although the homeowners were able to access home indemnity insurance after the building contractor’s insolvency, this project has obviously had significant financial and emotional impacts.”
