The Animal Welfare Grant Program is administered by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) on behalf of the State Government.

Applications are invited for proposals that provide free or low cost veterinary services, companion and animal rescue and rehoming, as well as wildlife rehabilitation.

Since its launch in 2021, 72 recipients from the Kimberley to the South Coast and the metropolitan area have shared in funding worth more than $2 million.

DPIRD Sustainability and Biosecurity Deputy Director General Mia Carbon said the Animal Welfare Grant Program had made significant contributions to the work of valuable organisations Statewide.

“The program has supported a large variety of companion animal and wildlife initiatives over the past four years,” she said.

“These include support for the veterinary services for Kimberley Aboriginal communities, monitoring wildlife releases in the South West and Great Southern, and training volunteers to rescue seabirds in the Peel region.

“The program has also played an important role in supporting the work of the Animal Poisons Helpline, Animal Management in Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities and expanding the ‘Spay it Forward’ program.”

Applicants may include, but are not restricted to, animal shelters, wildlife carers, rescue groups and rehabilitation centres, as well as companion animal foster carers and rescue networks.

Veterinary clinics, universities and local governments that provide low cost or free desexing, microchipping and veterinary care are also encouraged to apply.
