Telstra and Optus are planning to switch off their 3G mobile networks from 28 October 2024. Telecom’s (including Vodafone) 3G already ceased in January this year.
As 3G devices and some older 4G devices may be impacted by the 3G network switch off, it’s important to follow the necessary checks to ensure you're prepared for the switch off.
How you can prepare for the switch off
- To check if your device will be impacted SMS "3" to 3498.
- If your device is not compatible with 4G or 5G networks, including for making 000 emergency calls, you will need to upgrade them before October 28.
- If your network provider contacts you regarding the switch off, act quickly so your connection remains stable.
- If you’re unsure whether your personal medical alarms, smart watches and security systems will be impacted, contact your provider to start the conversation.
For businesses, remember to inform customers via email or social channels of how they can get in contact with you if your phone lines aren’t working.
