Action plan: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People

Working collectively to increase the representation and inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the WA public sector.

This action plan supports an aspirational target to increase the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the public sector to 3.7% and support inclusive work culture.

All agencies are responsible for working towards the aspirational target (actions are listed in full in the action plan).

Achieving the target

Increasing the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people employed in the sector requires sustained effort, different ways of working and stronger accountability.

The following resources help agencies to build cultural understanding and provide employment opportunities.

Tracking progress

Current representation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in public sector employment is 2.8%  and has been at this level for some time. In recent years, it was at its highest in 2013 at 3.0%.

A concerted focus is needed to increase employment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
