Healthy housing boost for Mullewa hospital staff
12/7/02
Construction on staff housing valued at $480,000 will commence on the Mullewa Hospital site in August, Minister for the Mid-West Kim Chance said today.
During a visit to Mullewa, Mr Chance said the new housing for doctors, nurses and other health professionals, due to be complete in November, would help attract and retain staff to the area.
"The State Government is building three townhouses on the hospital site, one with one bedroom and two with two bedrooms," he said.
"The new houses will be modern, comfortable and conveniently located close to the hospital and the town centre.
"Recruiting staff to work in country towns is much easier when good, clean, modern accommodation is available.
"The construction of these townhouses will be a real boost for the Mullewa Health Service and the community as a whole."
Mr Chance said the State Government was spending more than $4.6million on new and replacement staff accommodation projects throughout WA.
"The capital works program recognises the urgent need to increase the availability of staff accommodation in rural and remote areas," he said.
"Building new accommodation and upgrading existing facilities for both doctors and nurses will have a particular impact in rural and regional WA in attracting and retaining staff."
