Australia's only beach polo tournament kicks off at the extraordinary Cable Beach this weekend.

Acting Tourism Minister John Day said the Pinctada Cable Beach Polo 2014 was a unique event that not only attracted professional national polo players, but also international players from countries such as New Zealand and Colombia.

"The Pinctada Cable Beach Polo attracts many visitors to Broome, adding vibrancy and providing an economic boost to local businesses in the region," Mr Day said.

"The event also boasts Dinner Under the Stars on Cable Beach with Colorado chef Barclay Dodge, and the Kimberley Challenge Cup II which provides young Aboriginal stockmen with an opportunity to experience polo.

"Australia's rising star Barry Southgate will also perform at the tournament following his success as a contestant on The X-Factor and his role in the acclaimed movie, The Sapphires.  Australian model Samantha Harris will also be in attendance at the VIP marquee."

The State Government is proud to support the Pinctada Cable Beach Polo 2014 through Tourism WA's Regional Events Program, which is funded by Royalties for Regions.

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said he was pleased to see Royalties for Regions funding supporting exciting events such as Cable Beach Polo.

"Royalties for Regions funding has significantly boosted the number and calibre of regional events across the State, bringing significant social and economic benefits to regional communities," Mr Redman said.
