In the last seven decades, the Institute has led research into sugar cane, cotton, rice, sorghum, maize, winter cereals, safflower, linseed, peanuts, lemongrass, kenaf and other fibre crops.

Today, this East Kimberley region is a valuable northern foodbowl that produces an average of 33,500 tonnes of fruit and vegetables each year valued at almost $58.9 million annually.

The research station was named after former WA Premier Frank Wise who was instrumental in driving agriculture development in the north.
