South Coast region - Esperance

The South Coast region features numerous small, southward flowing rivers with some localised aquifers along the coast.

The region's water resources supply drinking water to local towns, domestic gardens and a wide variety of primary industries, such as agriculture. Many of the rivers, wetlands and waterways have very high ecological, social and cultural value with part of the region classified as a biodiversity hotspot.

Water allocation plans

Allocation planning in the South Coast region is driven by the potential for population growth, new mining developments, industrial expansion and growth in irrigated agriculture. At the same time, surface water and groundwater availability is expected to decline with the impacts of climate change.
