Thriving Kids

A new support system for children with disability, their families, carers and kin.
Last updated:

Thriving Kids is part of a national reform announced by the Commonwealth to support children aged 0–8 years with developmental delay and/or autism with low to moderate support needs, as well as their families, carers and kin.

Our State Budget includes $361 million in joint funding over five years for Thriving Kids’ family-focused early intervention services delivered in a range of community settings.

In Western Australia, our approach is focused on building family strengths, increasing community connections, and supporting child development and participation in everyday life.

The program will offer support that’s easier to reach, community-based and built around the family. Importantly, families won’t need a diagnosis to get help.

Support is designed to be time limited, as family capacity builds.

Like all other States, Western Australia (WA) is implementing Thriving Kids in a phased approach. Services will be progressively introduced between 1 October 2026 and 1 January 2028.

The first phase of implementation will be a transitional phase, to try, test and learn what works best for families, to help shape the design and commissioning of further Thriving Kids services in WA.
